The Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) party is set to hold its county convention for Trans Nzoia on Monday, marking the sixth event in a series aimed at the western region.
This comes on the heels of a highly successful meeting in Migori county last Friday.
As part of its efforts to comply with the Political Parties Act and gear up for the 2027 elections, the MDG party has been actively revamping and recruiting members.
So far, the party has conducted conventions and elections in Siaya, Kakamega, Vihiga, Kisumu, and Migori counties.
Party Leader and Ugenya MP David Ochieng has been vocal about pressing national issues. During the Migori convention, Ochieng urged President Ruto to address concerns raised by Generation Z protesters regarding corruption, tribalism, unemployment, and government extravagance.
He also called for the release of individuals abducted or charged over recent demonstrations.
The Trans Nzoia convention is expected to draw over 2,000 delegates from the county’s five constituencies.
Given that Trans Nzoia is a maize-growing region, the MDG, whose symbol is maize, aims to establish a strong presence there.
David Ochieng emphasized the party’s commitment to nationwide coverage, stating, “We are laying the foundation for a new kind of politics based on leadership with integrity.”
