Kenya reports 488 new COVID-19 cases, 162 patients in ICU

Kenya has reported 488 new COVID-19 cases, from a sample size of 5,831 and with a positivity rate of 8.4 percent.

Kenya’s total confirmed cases now stand at 174, 773.

In terms of county distribution, Nairobi has 90 cases, Busia 72, Siaya 71 and Kisumu has 35 new infections.

In a statement, health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe further reported 16 more COVID-19 related deaths.

According to the ministry of health, the 16 facilities reported in the last 24 hours were late deaths captured after conducting facility record audits.

Kenya’s death toll now stands at 3,378.

Further, 343 more patients have recovered, raising total recoveries to 119,589.

Data from the National Emergency Response Committee (NERC), also shows that 969 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, with the number of patients in the intensive care units shooting to 162.

In terms of vaccination, Kenya has so far administered 1,095,122 COVID-19 vaccines. 

According to the ministry of health, 110,052 persons have so far received their second dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

 ‘The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 11.17% with the majority being males at 56.4% while females are at 43.6%. Proportion of adults fully vaccinated is less than 1%,’ read statement from NERC.
