The exiled controversial lawyer and a self-proclaimed General, Dr. Miguna Miguna is set to jet back to Kenya this November.
Miguna has already booked a flight from Toronto, Canada scheduled to land in Nairobi on November 16, 2021.
“For the avoidance of any doubt, I have used my Kenya Passport that Despot Uhuru Kenyatta perforated in February 2018 to book my flight to Kenya, scheduled to arrive in the morning of November 16, 2021 at the JKIA. Let no one claim that I have used any other passport,” Miguna tweeted on Friday.
This, happening days after Kenyan lawyers, championed by former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga joined forces to initiate his return after he was first exiled back in February 2018. His travel passports were confiscated by the Kenyan government
Nelson Havi, the President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) is among senior lawyers in the country that have said would return controversial Miguna back to Kenya.
In his statement published by The Elephant on October 20, 2021, Dr. Mutunga condemned the government for disobeying court orders issued in his favour, adding that the vocal lawyer should be allowed back in the country unconditionally.
In solidarity with Dr Mutunga’s plan, Mr Havi announced that he was ready to accompany Dr Mutunga to Canada and bring back Miguna home.
“I am ready to accompany CJ Emeritus Dr Willy Mutunga to Canada to bring Miguna Miguna back home on November 16, 2021. The rule of law, respect for Court orders and the defense of the Constitution is the responsibility of all Kenyans in general and all leaders in particular,” Havi announced.
Exiled lawyer Miguna thanked Dr Mutunga and Havi as he called other Kenyans to join the journey.
On February 28, 2018 Justice Chacha Mwita ordered the government to submit Miguna’s passport to the High Court and also grant him unconditional entry into the country.
The court similarly squashed an earlier decree by Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i that had sought to nullify the lawyer’s citizenship and validate his forced exile.

The second time Miguna was exiled was in March 26 the same year after being detained at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for three days.
He was later deported to Dubai, a process the lawyer claims he doesn’t remember since he was sedated. This happened despite a court order issued on the same day by Justice George Odunga barring the government from forcefully removing him from the country.
Drama around his deportation came right after MIguna swore in former Prime Minister and current opposition chief Raila Odinga on January 30, 2018.
This followed a hotly contested 2017 general election which saw incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta claim a landslide victory against the opposition Odinga.
Odinga moved to the Supreme Court to petition the outcome of the election when he cited massive irregularities.
The Apex Court under the reign of retired CJ David Maraga, nullified the August 2017 election and ordered for a rerun in October the same year.
Odinga called on his supporters to boycott the repeat exercise, claiming no reform had been undertaken at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) that could guarantee a fair exercise.
It was until January 30, 2018 that Miguna, who was then the chief campaigner of Mr. Odinga opted to swear him in as the People’s President, maintaining that Kenyatta rigged himself into the State House.
The lawyer has already accepted there would be hurdles upon his return into the country, and whether the state would entertain his stay or not, remains to be seen.
