Retired Rugby player Humphrey Kayange has been appointed to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Athletes’ Commission by IOC President Thomas Bach for a four-year term.
According to communication from the IOC, Kayange will represent athletes after confirmation from the IOC.
Former Kenya’s 7s team captain is also a member of Kenya’s Olympics Executive Committee and now joins Paul Tergat in the international organisation.
The rugby star received the highest number of votes of the African candidates who vied in the election.

Kayange was elected alongside three other members on Friday in Tokyo, Japan.
The retired rugby player considered not to participate in the elections citing Kenya only had 87 athletes competing in the games, compared to countries like the United States and China, who have few delegations.
The Kenyan rugby pro, received the highest number of votes of the African candidates who vied in the election.
Humphrey Kayange has also helped to elevate the sport in Kenya through advocating for Kenyan athletes and he now uses that same energy to uplift the youth through his leadership program.
