Two Indomie products flagged for posing danger to human health

Food Safety Authority of Egypt (FSA) ordered two products of Indomie to be recalled from the market for being unfit for human consumption.

In an order issued April 26, 2022, FSA ordered the products – chicken and vegetables flavoured instant noodles as well as instant noodles with chili packs to be pulled from the Egyptian market.

According to FSA, the two contain “aflatoxins and pesticide residues in quantities that exceeded safe limits.”

The directive saw 733,340 cartons of different Indomie flavors withdrawn from the market by the supplier.

Consumers in Kenya have been cautioned to watch out for the flavours that have been flagged, in case they reach the market.

This is according to Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Competition Commission which said the products are imported and marketed in other COMESA Member States.

“The Commission would like therefore to alert the general public of the risks in consuming above Indomie instant noodles as established by the FSA and to exercise caution on the consumption of the same,” said the commission on its website.

Any person who establishes that the above products are being sold in the Common Market may report the matter to the Commission on +265 (0) 1 772466 or contact the undersigned on mdisasa@comesa.int; or Mr. Steven Kamukama, manager Consumer Welfare and Advocacy Division on skamukama@comesa.int .
