Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Wednesday announced the appointment of new finance minister and foreign minister in a cabinet reshuffle.
Announcing the reshuffle shortly after the swearing-in of Vice President Philip Mpango at Chamwino State House in the capital Dodoma, Hassan appointed Mwigulu Nchemba as the Minister of Finance and Planning to replace Mpango.
Prior to the new appointment, Nchemba was the Minister of Constitutional and Legal Affairs.
The president also appointed Liberata Mulamula as new Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation.
Mulamula, a seasoned diplomat, replaced Palamagamba Kabudi who becomes the new Minister of Constitutional and Legal Affairs.
Mpango was appointed as vice president by President Hassan on Tuesday before the parliament endorsed him.
President Hassan appointed Mpango as Vice President to fill the post that fell vacant after she was sworn in as president following the death of former President John Magufuli on March 17.
Hassan also appointed Hussein Yahya Katanga, Tanzania’s Ambassador to Japan, as new Chief Secretary, replacing Bashiru Ally.
It is systems go in Tanzania after President Suluhu took over the mantle following the death of John Pombe Magufuli.
Staff of a Tanzania state-run publication were suspended after they mistakenly printed an advert mourning the death of President Suluhu.
The advert, sponsored by Tanzania’s Mining Corporation (STAMICO) was intended to congratulate President Suluhu, on her emergence as the country’s 6th president but instead offered condolences to citizens on her death.
The ad appeared in Monday’s edition of the Daily News, a leading English newspaper in Tanzania, and read: “The Board of Directors, Management and Staff of State Mining Corporation (STAMICO) joins fellow Tanzanians in mourning the death of H.E President Samia Suluhu Hassan for being sworn in as the 6th President of the United Republic of Tanzania.”
President Suluhu was sworn in as the sixth President of the United Republic of Tanzania at 10.15 a.m on March 29, 2021 at State House, Dar es Salaam.
