Times Magazine has named Kenya’s President William Ruto as one of the top 100 influential individuals worldwide.
Another Kenya featured on the list is Kennedy Odede, the dedicated philanthropist and founder of Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO).
Ruto, Africa’s Climate Change Advocate
Time magazine said Ruto has been at the forefront advocating for Africa’s climate ambitions, emphasizing his growing influence and impact in shaping global conversations on environmental sustainability.
Kenya successfully hosted the Africa Climate Summit in Nairobi last year which attracted leaders from around the world.
The summit culminated in a collective commitment by African nations to accelerate the transition to renewable energy in the coming decade.
In a statement by Time’s senior correspondent Justin Worland, Ruto’s advocacy for debt relief for African countries to enable investments in climate solutions was commended for its far-reaching implications.

“His call for lenders to relieve the debt burden faced by some African countries, thus opening the door for spending on climate solutions, has made waves,” wrote Worland.
Despite these international accolades, the magazine also drew attention to the challenges faced by Ruto within Kenya itself.
Other Top Faces in Times Magazine Featured
While Ruto’s international prominence continues to rise, domestic issues such as protests against the cost of living and allegations of judicial interference present formidable hurdles.
The 2024 list of Time’s influential individuals includes a diverse array of talent, with 51 women recognized, including notable figures like Kylie Minogue, Dua Lipa, and Taraji P. Henson.
Additionally, several entertainers such as Elliot Page, Burna Boy, and America Ferrera are featured, showcasing the breadth of impact across various fields.
