Postal Corporation of Kenya has revised tariffs for sending letters in the country to mitigate heighten operating costs amid shrinking revenues.
The cost of sending letters will rise by up to Ksh.55 starting October 1, 2021.
Letters of over 250 grams to 500 grams will bounce from Ksh.95 to Ksh.150, followed by those weighing over 100g to 250g at Ksh.85 from the current Ksh.55.
The price of sending letters of over 20 grams to 50 grams will cost Kenyans Ksh.65 up from Ksh.45, while the rate for those weighing up to 100 grams will rise 50 percent to Ksh75.
The rise of sending letters comes after the Postal Corporation of Kenya got the green light to effect new tariffs in a bid to boost its cash flows from the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA).

CA has granted the corporation approval to review and effect the new letter postage rates for select products and services with effect from October 1, 2021.
“The Communications Authority of Kenya is empowered via the Kenya Information and Communications (Tariff) Regulations (2020), to grant the Public Licenses (PCK) the authority to review and effect basic postage rates from time to time,” read the notice.
Posta Kenya has been recording shrinking revenues in recent years largely due to stiff competition from private courier services which have tapped its market share, mainly on parcel business.
There are a total of 788 private operator outlets in the country which are giving stiff competition to the state corporation.
The new tariffs are in line with the ever-changing market dynamics and cost of business operations.
