The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) kicked off on March 7, 2022, at 8:30 am across 28,316 exam centres in the country.
The exam is expected to last on March 9, 2022.
The Ministry of Education assured on the integrity of the exams as several government officials supervised the opening of sealed examination containers in various parts of the country.
Education Cabinet Secretary(CS) George while in Kakamega County, oversaw the distribution of exam materials to centres in the region and assured that materials had been successfully distributed to 1,225,507 candidates.
Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiangi on the hand was in Machakos and Education Chief Administrative Secretary Sarah Ruto was in Uasin Gishu.
Also some Principal Secretaries took part in the exercise like Karanja Kibicho (interior) was in Nairobi, Julius Jwan (education) in Kisii and Fatuma Chege (CBC) in Nyeri County.
ICT’s Joe Mucheru was located in Kajiado, Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) Chairperson John Asanti in Meru and Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) CEO Ochieng’ Ong’ondo was in Kisumu Central.
Unfortunately, the situation of young children being recruited by bandits, especially in Baringo County has proved otherwise on the security of some candidates with the government promising key measures to tackle the situation.
“It is unfortunate that young children are used as cattle rustlers instead of being in school, something that should not be encouraged, during this era,” Maalim Mohamed, Regional Commissioner of Rift Valley regretted.
This, as he warned politicians against inciting chaos.
This year, a total of 831,015 students will sit for their major exams compared to 752,981 students who sat the exam in 2020.
