Kenya Film Commission partners with MyMovies.Africa to create Screening Culture in Kenya

Kenya Film Commission (KFC) has announced its commitment to creating a Screening Culture in the country, through partnering with Kenya’s premier Mobile-first Digital Cinema Extension – MyMovies.Africa.

Timothy Owase, KFC Chief Executive Officer says the Commission is looking forward to engaging #TheGreatNightIn – a Monthly online Watch Party, recently launched by Movies.Africa.

“As we get into the future, on behalf of the KFC Board, I would like to commit to the MyMovies.Africa team that the product you have launched – #TheGreatNightIn, is a product that the Board can work together with, in creating a Screening Culture in the country”, said Owase, who spoke as the Guest of Honour, at the 2nd Birthday celebrations of the MyMovies.Africa Service.

He re-emphasise the importance of Content Creation, and applauded the Founders of MyMovies.Africa for creating monetisation opportunities for Producers.

“I call upon Kenyan producers to utilise this forum, to be able to monetise their Content to the world through this technology”, he added.

The partnership comes at a time when the Kenya Film Commission has been promoting the local Film Industry.

With digital migration taking shape, and over 100 Free-to-Air channels available, KFC is required to help the country achieve the 60 percent local Content among Broadcasters.

The Commission is acting as a catalyst, resulting in the sudden huge demand for Content.

“On the back of this success, MyMovies.Africa™ would like to make more of their Titles available for #TheGreatNightIn, where Viewers will be able to exclusively Meet the Cast and Crew via ZOOM”, says Trushna Buddhdev-Patel – Co-Founder & Chief Executive Officer.

The debut of #TheGreatNightIn was the highlight of MyMovies.Africa’s 2nd Birthday Celebrations, on September 26, which screened the Internationally-acclaimed True Story of Africa’s first female Lacrosse Team, from the Rift Valley in Kenya, and their Journey across the Globe to the 2019 World Championships, titled SLEEPING WARRIOR.

The #GreatNightIn will be a monthly online event, which will start by highlighting Kenyan movies, to create a culture of watching Kenya film together as a Household. This will happen every last Sunday of the Month, and will be Hosted on ZOOM.

For each Ticket, every Household shall make payment via Safaricom BONGA Points or M-Pesa in Kenya; with Mastercard, PayPal and Visa worldwide.

After the Screening, viewers interacted with Sharon Opari – who the Documentary follows, as well as the
