KFC stage forum to educate Kenyans on content marketing across Africa

The Kenya Film Commission will host the 5th edition of the Kalasha International Film & TV Market at Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) to create space for content creators to understand the film environment in the country and beyond.

The event themed film business is scheduled for June 10 to 12, 2022 bringing together among others regional and international film enthusiasts, policy experts and investors in film and the public to make it a unique platform.

Speaking to Metropol TV, Kenya Film Commission Chief Executive Timothy Owase said the trade fair will further highlight the economics of content creation in the digital era, film financing and investment options in the creative sector among others.

Other pertinent issues to be covered include licensing and monetization of content, filming opportunities and challenges in Africa and bridging the gap between the media and the film industry.

“During the market we have a mini event called ‘My County, My Story’ where we have films coming from different counties and these films will be screened at Kalasha Film and TV Market,” said Owase.

My Kenya My Story mobile phone film competition is one activity within the Commission’s commitment of growing Kenya’s film industry, focusing on application of affordable technology in telling stories.

The competition is aimed at powering the growth of the local film industry countrywide with the affordability of a smartphone over high-end equipment”.

My Kenya My Story initiative is also aimed at opening up the Kenyan Market to collaborative ventures with other filmmakers in various counties within Kenya with the potential of creating a single largest market where different counties can harmoniously trade with each other.

In 2002 Kenya emerged winner of ‘Best Film Location’ in the ‘Originality and Creativity’ section of the Annual Global Locations Expo in Los Angeles.

Kenya has long been a popular destination and location for filmmakers and film production respectively.

A three-day trade fair showcasing filming activities will also offer a high-level interaction through conferences, workshops, business-to-business opportunities and pitching sessions.

To register for the  Kalasha International Film and TV Market one needs to pay a minimum of Ksh.300 for a single day entrance and Ksh.700 for a three-day pass. Students, however, with  valid student identification cards will receive free admission to the trade fair.
