A UK based digital banking company; PiPit has announced a combined 225 million shillings partnership with two Kenyan digital payment firms, Cellulant and Tawakal.
Through the deal, Cellulant will be able to offer Kenyans and East Africans living abroad the ability to pay bills at home, shop online on Kenyan sites, lodge cash to bank accounts at home and convert cash into mobile money.
At the same time, Kenyans living in the United Kingdom can lodge cash to their home accounts through Tawakal via pipit in the UK, as opposed to remitting cash.
Pipit banking is partnering with banks in developing countries, including Kenya, to use their collection network to enable overseas customers to lodge money to their bank accounts back home through the UK post office for example.
The deal is among a number of deals that have been reached as part of an Irish trade mission to Kenya.
Over 40 global, leading Irish companies are participating on the trade mission, led by the Irish government Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Heather Humphreys.
The mission aims to boost Irish business presence in Kenya and further collaboration between Kenyan and Irish companies, particularly in key growth areas including; education, life sciences, construction, and Fintech.Â
