The Intergovernmental Authority On Development has today launched the IGAD drought disaster resilience and sustainability initiative, which will guide drought disaster management in the region from 2019 through to 2024. The initiative comes at a time when a section of Kenyans are facing starvation. Speaking during the launch, Kenya Red Cross secretary Abbas Gullet said that the interventions provided by the drought resilience agenda have largely reduced the impacts of drought in recent times, and emphasised that establishing sustainability among the affected communities is key in creating resilience
