The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has picked Juliana Cherera as the Vice Chairperson.
Cherera is among four IEBC Commissioners who were appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta on September 2 after their successful vetting.
The Justice and Legal Affairs Committee of the National Assembly conducted a successful vetting process for Cherera in August.
She was among the four who were picked after the selection panel interviewed 36 shortlisted candidates out of over 700 who submitted their applications for the IEBC Commissioners.
In a statement on Wednesday, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati said Cherera was unanimously elected during a meeting.
Prior to joining the IEBC, she was Chief Officer in the office of the Governor in Mombasa County. She is also a teacher by profession.
She takes over from Consolata Nkatha who deputised Chairman Wafula Chebukati until April 2018, when she tendered her resignation alongside commissioners Margaret Mwachanya and Paul Kurgat.
