The Government is seeking to tap the potential of technology and innovation, as a tool to advance the film business in the country.
The Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS), Ministry of ICT Maureen Mbaka, said the government has invested in connectivity infrastructure across the country for you people to take advantage of all the benefits that come with technological advancements.
“As the ministry, we have recognised that there is technological advancement even when it comes to film production and film consumption which was accelerated by COVID-19. But even as we move towards the fourth industrial revolution, the internet becomes very relevant even in the film industry,” said Mbaka.
She spoke during the feting top three contenders in the 5th edition of My Kenya My Story mobile phone film competition organized by the Kenya Film Commission.
My Kenya My Story is one sure way of opening up the Kenyan Market to collaborative ventures with other filmmakers in the various counties within Kenya with the potential of creating a single largest market where different counties can harmoniously trade with each other.
Also present was Government Spokesperson Cyrus Oguna who said such initiatives will help the country in avoiding disasters and crises that could be easily avoidable.
The competition received the entrance of 116 films which were scrutinized by a five-member jury.
Distances by William Ogega emerged as the winner walking away with Ksh.200,000 cash prize followed by 999 produced by Joel Wachira bagging Ksh.150,000.
Ushuhuda by Elyas Mohamiud came in third place with 100,000 while Youth Bila Stress closed with Ksh.50,000.
Kenya Film Commission Chief Executive Timothy Owase noted that the competition aimed at youths in the creative sector to produce authentic stories with the aid of Smartphones.
With the recent landing of a Ksh.44 billion Peace Submarine Cable in Mombasa, Mbaka said will bring faster and more stable communication services reducing delays between the continents.
The infrastructure aims to bring high-speed broadband internet to the country and will go away in reducing the digital divide.
