Comedian-cum politician Nyambane becomes first candidate to receive IEBC ticket to run for president

Umoja Summit party leader Walter Mongare, better known as Nyambane has become the first presidential candidate to be cleared to run for the August 9, 2022, presidential polls.

According to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati, Nyambane met all conditions.

“We want to confirm that you have complied with the checklist. You will be issued with a certificate confirming you as a presidential candidate to enable you begin your campaigns,” said Chebukati.

Nyambane has likened his stab at the presidency to that of Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who was once a comedian but later become the president.

The Vijana Tugutuke champion who formerly hosted Kiss FM’s breakfast show alongside Caroline Mutoko said Zelenskyy, played the role on television, and is now his country’s unlikely wartime hero, in a fight against Russian invasion.

“For a moment, he [Zelenskyy] imitated the president and he became one. I imitated the President and I, too, am becoming. As Umoja Summit, we shall continue to speak with one voice, because this is our land, country, and moment together,” said Monga’re.
