99 students and four teachers at Muruku secondary school in Salama Ward, Laikipia County have tested positive for COVID-19.
According to Laikipia West Disease Surveillance leaders Daniel Kahoro, they positive from a total of 282 samples that were collected from both teachers and students at the institution on Friday last week.
He said the tests were conducted after a teacher at the institution tested positive for the disease prompting them to test other pupils.
The students are being quarantined at the institution with the positive students being quarantined at the institution in the next 10 days, while the negative students are also isolated separately at the institution.

He added, “Most of the students at the institution are day scholars but we have ensured that they are being held at the institution to ensure that they also do not interact with the villagers.”
However, Kenya’s COVID-19 positivity rate has shot to 13.1 percent, a day after it was 8 percent according to the ministry of health.
In the past 24 hours, 761 more people tested positive for the virus from a sample size of 5,794 tests.
The new cases have now pushed the country’s caseload to 189,703.
Counties with the highest number of new infections include Nairobi which has 189 cases, Kisumu 133, Laikipia 104, Uasin Gishu 45, Nakuru and Mombasa 35, Kiambu 27, Kitui 23, and Garissa has 20 new infections.
Total recoveries stand at 180,624 after 71 more people conquered the disease.
