3 killed along Kanduyi-Malaba road accident

Three people have been confirmed dead in a road accident which occurred along Kanduyi-Malaba highway on Wednesday night.

Six others were rushed to Bungoma County Referral Hospital (BCRH) and are nursing serious injuries.

The accident involved a public service vehicle (PSV) -Western tour Sacco which was heading to Bungoma from Malaba and a private vehicle with a Ugandan registration numer that was heading towards Bungoma.

The accident occurred at Kimaeti area in Bumula constituency, Bungoma County.

Bungoma South sub county police commander Benjamin Kimwele said the accident occurred when a motorbike, registration number KBS365J that was at high speed attempted to overtake a Mercedes Benz  heading to Bungoma town.

The matatu that was heading to Malaba border tried to avoid hitting the rider, it rammed into the private car.

“This was a serious accident that has left innocent people dead after a head-on collision between a passenger vehicle and a private vehicle heading in different directions,” said Kimwele.

Kimwele has asked drivers to be keen while driving at night to reduce the number of accidents occurring on Kanduyi- Malaba highway.

“I am appealing to motorcycle riders, truck drivers, PSV drivers and private vehicle owners to be keen and always use full light while driving at night or during bad weather conditions so that they do not cause unavoidable accidents,” he said.
