By Makali John | The 2021 edition of the Magical Kenya Open Golf Championship will be a unique one as it will be played without the presence of spectators.
Speaking to Metropol TV, the Kenya Golf Open Tournament (KGOT) Director, Engineer Patrick Obath said the tournament has been organized in a manner that will minimise contact with players while ensuring that all spaces are kept under strict COVID-19 protocols.
“We are going to have a bubble, the whole of the area where they are going to eat, training is going to be almost like a quarantine area they are going to be closed in that area and tested before getting to the bubbles even if the players will have been tasted three days before,” said Engineer Patrick Obath, tournament director, KGOL.
The golf tournament, which is part of the elite European tour, is expected to attract at least 156 golfers with over 30 countries set to be represented.
Players will include 12 Kenyan pros, with Nigeria, Uganda, and Zimbabwe being represented by one player each.
The tournament will be held from March 18 – 21, 2021 at the Karen Country Club.
Engineer Obath further indicated that Kenya will also host the savannah classic which is also a part of European tour events this year.
Kenya Savannah Classic will be held from March 23 – 26, 2021, at the Karen Country Club.
