There are calls for the United Kingdom’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson to resign three years after he took over from Teresa May who also resigned two years before the end of her term.
This is against the backdrop of allegations that the PM might have broken COVID-19 restrictions.
Is believed the Prime Minister and his wife were among 40 people at a Downing Street held garden party in May 2020.
Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey told BBC Breakfast if the prime minister had a “shred of decency left”, he should resign today.
Davey added that Johnson was “incapable of leading our country through this public health crisis”, accusing him of being a “threat to the health of the nation” as the public would not listen to anything he had to say.
“If the prime minister won’t resign, it was the duty of Conservative MPs to “do the right thing” and ensure he does “in the interests of the country”, Sir Ed argued.
On Tuesday the Prime Minister’s official spokesman did not comment on whether staff expressed concerns over the 20 May gathering at the time, or whether Johnson attended.
Johnson has so far declined to say whether he attended the gathering on 20 May 2020.
The PM’s official spokesman has also refused to confirm whether Johnson attended the lockdown party.
