The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has terminated contracts and grants in Kenya totaling over Ksh.108 billion ($834 million), an uptick from Ksh.32.5 billion just two weeks prior.
This escalation follows a 90-day review of U.S. foreign aid ordered by President Donald Trump on January 20, 2025, to assess its value to American taxpayers.
Major cancellations include a Ksh.67.3 billion trade and investment program with DAI Global and an Ksh.8.4 billion education initiative with RTI International.
These cuts threaten Kenya’s development in critical sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, education, and energy, putting thousands of jobs at risk, particularly in rural areas.
