Tottenham Hotspur sack Jose Mourinho

Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur has fired Jose Mourinho days ahead of their Sunday clash against Manchester City in Carabao Cup final.

According to the club, Mourinho has been sent home alongside his technical bench.

Mourinho’s coaching staff included Joao Sacramento, Nuno Santos, Carlos Lalin and Giovanni Cerra.

29-year old Ryan Mason is taking charge of training on Monday.

“Jose and his coaching staff have been with us through some of our most challenging times as a club.

“Jose is a true professional who showed enormous resilience during the pandemic. On a personal level I have enjoyed working with him and regret that things have not worked out as we both had envisaged. He will always be welcome here and we should like to thank him and his coaching staff for their contribution.”

Mourinho took charge of Spurs in November 2019, replacing Mauricio Pochettino. His contract was to end in 2023.

Mourinho leaves Spurs seventh in the table, five points off the Champions League places and 24 points behind table toppers City.

Last Friday, Spurs settle for a 2-2 draw against Everton in a thrilling clash at Goodison Park.

Captained by Harry Kane, Spurs play Southampton on Wednesday, before their trip to Wembley on Sunday for the Carabao Cup final against Pep Guardiola’s side Manchester City.
