After two years helping shape bolttech’s expansion across Africa, insurance and technology executive Dominic Agesa Kavugwi has concluded his journey with the global embedded insurance company.
During his tenure, Dominic played a pivotal role in supporting bolttech’s market entry and growth strategy in Kenya and Africa. He led strategic partnerships, commercial development and ecosystem engagement with insurers, banks, fintechs, retailers, OEMs and device financing companies.
One of his notable achievements was identifying MTEK as a strategic acquisition opportunity, introducing the company to bolttech, and supporting the engagement and acquisition process that brought the Kenyan technology company into bolttech’s ecosystem.
Dominic also spearheaded the commercial strategy behind bolttech’s Device Lifecycle Management proposition for Africa—an integrated solution designed to help device financing companies reduce credit risk through device locking, tracking, repair, replacement and lifecycle management.
Recognising the rapid growth of device financing across Africa, he worked with financial institutions, fintechs, retailers and technology partners to position device lifecycle management as a critical risk mitigation solution for lenders.
In parallel, he advised insurance companies and strategic partners on the design and commercialization of embedded device protection solutions, helping structure products covering accidental damage, theft, total loss and repair services that could be seamlessly integrated into device financing and retail ecosystems.
His work also included developing strategic relationships with insurers, financial institutions, mobile operators and technology companies as bolttech established its presence across the region.
Reflecting on Africa’s technology landscape, Dominic believes the continent’s next wave of innovation will come from businesses that successfully connect technology, finance and partnerships.
“Africa is a relationship-driven market. Technology creates possibilities, but sustainable growth comes from understanding local markets, building trust and creating ecosystems that solve real problems.”
While he has confirmed the end of his chapter at bolttech, he has not yet announced his next move.
Industry observers believe his departure will be closely watched, given his track record in market expansion, strategic partnerships, embedded insurance, device financing ecosystems and commercial growth across Africa.
With more than a decade of experience spanning insurance, InsurTech and digital financial services, Dominic remains one of the executives contributing to the evolution of Africa’s technology and financial services landscape.
