Sports CS Amina disbands FKF

Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has disbanded the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and formed a caretaker Committee to rum the federation.

The committee, which has a six-month mandate, will be chaired by retired Justice Aaron Ringera.

“The registrar has forwarded the report to my office with recommendations that DCI, NIS and EACC carry out further investigation to establish the extent to which misappropriation of funds at FKF may have occurred with a view of prosecuting those who may be found culpable,” said CS Amina.

This is after the CS, received an audit report on FKF Thursday from Sports Registrar Rose Wasike.

She had earlier on in the day snubbed summons from the Senate, where she was set to appear before the Social and Welfare Committee chaired by Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja.

During the course of the investigations, the current officials of FKF be removed from office to pave way for further investigations pending conclusion.

The report also calls for a special audit of the accounts of FKF and subsequent future audits.

It also warned against the current officials opening any bank accounts pending the investigations.

FKF President Nick Mwendwa has accused CS Amina Mohamed of planning to remove him from office illegally.

He made the accusation after the CS on October 15 directed the Sports Registrar to undertake inspection of FKF in accordance with Section 52 of the Sports Act.

The national football governing body is in the eye of a storm over how it spent Ksh.244 million on the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations finals.

“These reports are not fabricated I want to tell you as the President of FKF that the CS does not want me in office because since AFCON, I have been in office under three Cabinet Secretaries, Hassan Wario, Rashid Echesa and Amina Mohamed. We went to AFCON with Amina and she was happy with the preparations,” said Mwendwa.
