Several pupils have been confirmed dead and other injured after a classroom collapsed on them at Precious Talent School in Ngong , Nairobi.
The classrooms were in a two-storey building that caved in at around 6.50am.
According to the Government spokesperson Colonel Cyrus Oguna, seven learners died at the scene and 57 others rushed to Kenyatta National Referral Hospital. The government promised to take care of the hospital bills for the injured pupils.
“57 students have been taken to hospital for treatment and we can also confirm that there have been seven fatalities. This is a private school but the government is going to ensure the injured pupils receive medical treatment,” said Oguna.
Education Cabinet Secretary is scheduled to give a presser on the similar incident, but the government’s spokesperson urged the public to maintain calm as they move with speed to help the affected.
Reports indicated that the top floor of the collapsed building was housing junior primary pupils and the most affected were ones in class 6, 7 and 8 on the ground floor.
