
President William Ruto has made sweeping changes to Kenya’s military leadership, promoting and appointing senior officers to head critical defence units in a move aimed at reshaping the command structure.
In a statement issued Friday, June 27, by Ministry of Defence Director of Communication Temesi Mukani, Major General David Ketter was promoted to Lieutenant General and appointed Commander of the Kenya Army.
He takes over from Lieutenant General David Tarus, who has been redeployed as Vice Chancellor of the National Defence University-Kenya. Ketter previously served as Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of personnel and logistics.
In the Kenya Air Force, Major General Bernard Waliaula was named the new Commander, succeeding Major General Fatuma Ahmed, who retired after an illustrious 42-year career. Waliaula previously served as Director of Defence National Security Industries.
Brigadier Joel Marimi, elevated to Major General and appointed Commandant of the Kenya Military Academy. He previously served as Commander of the Armoured Brigade.
Brigadier Joyce Sitienei, promoted to Major General and appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor for Strategic and Security Studies at the National Defence University. Sitienei was formerly Director of the International Peace Support Centre.
Brigadier Faustino Lobaly, now Major General, takes over as Director of National Defence Security Industries.
Brigadier Charles Mwazighe, promoted to Major General, is now Director of the International Peace Support Centre.
Brigadier Mohamed Iddi, also promoted to Major General, will serve as Director at the Directorate of Oversight, Compliance, and Accountability.
