President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday, March 26, directed a cessation of movement by road, rail or air into and out of Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu and Nakuru counties indefinitely.
The five counties were branded “disease infected areas” and the lockdown shall be effective midnight March 26, 2021 until advised otherwise.
“That fully conscious that 70 percent of Kenya’s reported cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in the Counties of Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu and Nakuru, these counties are individually and collectively declared a disease-infected area.
“There shall be a cessation of all movement by rail, road, all air, into and out of the disease infected area as one zoned area comprising of the counties of Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu and Nakuru effective midnight tonight until otherwise notified,” the president stated.
The curfew in these countries will begin at 8 p.m and end at 4 a.m effective tonight.
Bars operators within the affected areas shall not be allowed to operate, and the order stays indefinitely.
The sale of alcohol in restaurants in the five counties has been prohibited until further notice other than the remaining 42 counties.
He also ordered all restaurants and eateries in the five counties to provide takeaway services only.
Public transport operators will continue to adhere to the provisioned guidelines of carrying capacity of 60 percent until further notice.
All employers and enterprises of whatever nature have been directed to allow employees to work from home except for employees in essential services that cannot work remotely.
There shall be an immediate suspension of all ongoing physical learning in all institutions other than for candidates sitting exams and those in medical training institutions until otherwise notified.
The remaining 42 counties shall continue to adhere to the underlying coronavirus guidelines as stipulated by the Ministry of Health.
