President Kenyatta appoints IEBC, TSC commissioners

President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC)  and Teachers Service Commission (TSC) commissioners following their approval by Members of Parliament on Wednesday.

This paves way for the swearing-in of the four IEBC commissioners – Juliana Cherera, Francis Wanderi, Irene Masit and Justus Abonyo.

They are likely to take oath on Thursday.

The Justice and Legal Affairs Committee of the National Assembly conducted a successful vetting process for the four commissioners last month.

The four were picked after the selection panel interviewed 36 shortlisted out of over 700 Kenyans who submitted their applications.

Kenya is in a race against time to reconstitute IEBC a year to next year’s poll which is slated for August.

TSC Appointment

The Head of State has also appointed five commissioners to the Teachers Service Commission, ending a quorum hitch that has marred the regulatory body.

Nicodemus Anyang, Christine Kahindi, Sharon Chelagat, Anceta Wafukho and Salesa Adano are also due to be sworn in on Thursday.

The five TSC commissioners will also serve for a period of six years.
