Officials announce total AFCON draw

The official fixtures of the Total AFCON tournament have been announced and five main cities were selected as hosts of the continental tournament that is slated to take place between January 9 to February 6, 2022.

These are Douala, Yaoundé, Bafoussam, Garoua and Limbe-Buea. The games will be played at Japoma Stadium, Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium, Olembé Stadium, Kouekong Stadium, Roumdé-Adjia Stadium and Limbe Omnisport Stadium.

 In attendance at the event was CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe and his counterpart Prof. Narcisse Mouelle Kombi who is the current COCAN President and Cameroon Sports Minister of Sports.

The hosts and five-time Africa Cup of Nations winners Cameroon will face off with runners up of the 2013 edition Burkina Faso in the opening match of the tournament.

The 24 qualified teams have divided into 6 groups with for teams each. The groups have been divided as follows.

Group A: Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Cape Verde

Group B: Senegal, Zimbabwe, Guinee, Malawi

Group C: Morocco, Ghana, Comoros, Gabon

Group D: Nigeria, Egypt, Sudan, Guinea-Bissau

Group E: Algeria, Sierra-Leone, Equatorial Guinea, Côte d’Ivoire

Group F: Tunisia, Mali, Mauritania, Gambia

The Group stage round of the competition will take place from January 9 to 20, 2022 Round of 16 will follow from January 23-26 quickly followed by the Quarter-finals which will take place between January 29 and 30.

Semi-finals will be played between February 2 and 3 and finally Third Place match and Final will be played on February 6, 2022, bringing a close to the continental tournament.
