Nairobi County Allocates Ksh. 38.7 Million for Woodley Residents' Compensation Ahead of Housing Project

The project will serve as a model for future projects in other Nairobi areas, including Bondeni, Lumumba, and Kariobangi.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has allocated Ksh.38.7 million to compensate Woodley residents who received evacuation notices in light of the County’s new affordable housing initiative.

The compensation package, finalized after extensive legal processes at City Hall, is part of the County’s plan to construct 1,900 affordable housing units in the area.

Each of the 43 affected residents will receive Ksh.900,000 under the project, dubbed “300 Woodley Village.”

“This marks the first time a government has offered such substantial compensation to help tenants relocate while awaiting the completion of a housing project,” Governor Sakaja stated.

Times Completion of Project

The redevelopment is set to take place on a 10-acre plot within the 100-acre Woodley Estate.

This initiative is part of a an effort to revitalize Nairobi’s aging estates, according to the Governor.

Governor Sakaja has directed Patrick Mbogo, the County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Urban and Housing Renewal, to prioritize the project.

The project will serve as a model for future projects in other Nairobi areas, including Bondeni, Lumumba, and Kariobangi.

“I urge my team to treat this project with the seriousness it deserves, setting a standard for other developments we plan across Nairobi,” Governor Sakaja added.

Echoing the Governor’s sentiments, CEC Mbogo affirmed the County’s commitment to providing modern and improved housing for Nairobi residents.

“We are dedicated to offering better, modern homes for our people,” he said.
