Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiangi together with Ida Odinga raised Ksh.50 million to help renovate and improve infrastructure development for Nyaura Primary School, Kisii County.
the funds raised would help in transforming the school facilities to modern standards.
“Nyaura School is one of the public schools that are going to be densely populated because of the commercialisation of the Nyaribari Chache area. Therefore, the school has to be re-done to the standards that can accommodate thousands of students,’ said Dr. Matiangi.
President Uhuru Kenyatta who was represented by Dr. Matiangi contributed Ksh1 million while other CSs contributed Ksh1.8 million in total.
The fundraiser which happened on December 5, was organized by Health Principal Secretary Susan Mochache.
Mochache said that it is the same school which her father, including herself, undertook their primary education.
On her part, Raila Odinga’s wife Ida challenged schools not to depend on the government to improve their own infrastructures.
When I asked her (Mochache) why this particular school. She revealed to me that her father studied in this school and that she also went to the same school. She also stated that she wanted to make it modern. Go back to your school the way Mochache has invited us to come back to this school and do something,” said Ida.
The event was attended by other top government officials including Heath CS Mutahi Kagwe and ICT counterpart Joe Mucheru.
Ida Odinga has been at the forefront of championing education in the country.
In August last year, Ida raised Ksh176.9 million for the building of a 500-student capacity library at her alma mater – Ogande Girls High School in Homa Bay county.
The project is estimated to have cost at least Ksh300 million.
She said the project will secure her legacy as a dedicated alumna as well as a lifetime teacher, career and life coach of the girl child.
