Kenya’s new sports brand penetrates foreign market

Kenya’s original sports brand Enda has announced to have sold 7,000 pairs of shoes to make a tenfold increase in sales compared to the year-end in 2019.

The newly unveiled sports brand reveals that  90 percent of their orders came from the United States showing growth in the brand’s popularity in the country, those from Europe at 8 percent and 12 percent from Kenya.

“Majority of our shoes are actually sold in United States (US), we have been able to expand and right now we are selling in Europe,”  said Enda’s Chief Executive, Navalayo Osembo.

The company has revealed it will mount its factory in Kilifi County in a bid to create jobs for local residents.

Speaking in Kilifi County, Enda Sports Wear Lead Designer Cyprian Kiswili said the factory currently hires over 50-100 employees in their production line at any given time.

The factory will also see an increase in capacity for locally manufactured raw products.

In partnership with Umoja Rubber Products Limited, Kilifi based factory produces between 150 to 300 pairs of shoes per day.

Part of their company’s success is attributed to the creased health consciousness during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns.

“In the past we have been relying on shoes imported in the country, but now we have the capacity to make these high performance quality shoes locally and people are appreciating these Kenyan made products.”

Enda whose brand name translates to “go” in Swahili, a word traditionally chanted by fans at competitions to encourage athletes as they approach the last stretch of intense races.

Osembo said their shoes can be ordered using online platforms across the world.
