Kenya’s COVID-19 new cases have sharply dropped, with the Ministry of Health announcing only 86 new infections in the last 24 hours.
In a statement from the National Emergency Response Committee (NERC), the new cases were from a sample size of 2,789 tests, translating to a positivity rate of 3.1 percent.
Total confirmed cases are now 165,465 with 1,744,393 cumulative tests conducted.
Since the start of May, Kenya’s average daily cases stand at 385 with samples tested at 4,678 and a passivity rate of 8.1 percent.
The figures issued by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe further show that the number of patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has dropped to 109.
“A total of 1,030 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 4,815 patients are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care Program,” said Kagwe, adding that another 81 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen.
Cumulative fatalities now stand at 3,003 after the government announced 2 more deaths, which it says, occurred on diverse dates within the last one month. Between May 1 and May 16, 2021, Kenya has reported 279 COVID-19 related deaths.
In terms of recoveries, 123 more people have been declared COVID-free, pushing total recoveries to 113,612, representing 68.7 percent recovery rate.
