The Ministry of Health on Saturday reported 20 more COVID-19 related fatalities, raising the country’s death toll to 2,206.
In a statement, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said 2 of the deaths occurred in the last 24 hours, 14 in the last one month and 4 were late death reports from facility record audits that occurred on diverse dates.
At the same time, the country has recorded 1,184 new cases of coronavirus, from a sample size of 7,139, translating to a positivity rate of 16.5%.
Kenya’s total confirmed positive cases are now 138,077 with 1,511,592 tests cumulatively conducted.
Distribution of cases
In terms of County distribution Nairobi has the highest number of new cases at 613, Kiambu 92, Nyeri 59, Kericho 47, Uasin Gishu 38, Machakos 37, Meru 33, Kajiado 28, Nakuru 26, Nyamira 26, Nyandarua 23, Kilifi 23, Taita Taveta 19, Kakamega 17, Laikipia 16, Kirinyaga 12, Bomet 11, Bungoma 11, Mombasa 8, and Murang’a 8.
Busia, Kitui, and Homa Bay each has 5 new cases, while Vihiga has 4 and Kisumu 3.
Kwale, Makueni, Mandera, and Migori have 2 infections each while Marsabit, Nandi, Garissa, Narok and Isiolo recorded one case each.
The number of recoveries now stands at 93,650 after 220 patients recovered from the disease. According to the data breakdown by the ministry of health, 177 are from the Home Based and Isolation Care, and 43 from various health facilities.
Hospital admissions
In terms of hospital admissions, the number of patients fighting for their lives in the intensive care units across the country is still on the rise.
The statement said, “187 patients are in the ICU, 43 of whom are on ventilatory support and 111 on supplemental oxygen. 247 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with 234 of them in the general wards and 13 in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).”
1,582 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 5,376 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.
