Nairobi hosted the WHX Nairobi Networking Event, the centre of health innovation discourse on Tuesday night at Vila Rosa Kempinski.
The event themed “The Digital Health Triangle: Universal Health Coverage, Primary Healthcare and HealthTech,” drew voices from across East Africa and marked a step in Kenya’s plan to become the region’s hub for digital health innovation.
The event, held ahead of the main WHX Conference scheduled for October, convened health leaders, tech innovators, and policymakers to chart a path forward for integrating digital solutions into healthcare systems.
The conversations centred on how digital technologies can enhance access to care, increase operational efficiency, and significantly reduce healthcare costs—particularly within primary care.
At the heart of the discussions was how digital health tools—ranging from telemedicine and health data platforms to AI-powered diagnostics—can accelerate progress toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
Stakeholders explored strategies to embed these innovations into national health policies, with a focus on strengthening primary healthcare as the foundation for sustainable health systems.
“Digital health isn’t a future goal—it’s a present-day necessity,” one speaker noted. “If we are to achieve UHC in our region, we must make technology a core part of how we deliver, manage, and fund healthcare.”
The WHX event stressed the importance of cross-border collaboration and challenged stakeholders to leverage shared experiences and innovations to scale solutions more effectively and build resilient health systems.
Kenya, in particular, is at the forefront in the region’s healthtech space, with a growing ecosystem of startups, research institutions, and government-backed initiatives focused on transforming healthcare delivery through technology.
The WHX Conference is slated for October 22, 2025 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).
