National carrier Kenya Airways has resumed flights to India bringing an end to a four-month suspension announced in April this year.
The carrier had announced the suspension following a government directive on travel between India and Kenya due to a COVID-19 crisis in that country citing a new, highly infectious coronavirus strain.
In a communication from the national carrier, flights from Nairobi to Mumbai will start again September 16, 2021 with normal schedules resuming from September 20,2021.
However, the airline did not divulge further information on the decision.
India, one of Kenya’s main trading partners, accounted for 102,600 passenger arrivals through the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in 2019, and was the second-largest source of imports valued at Ksh.178.8 billion.
A large number of patients from Kenya also travel to India every year for specialised medical treatment, especially cancer care, helping to drive medical tourism in the densely populated country that boasts affordable and easily accessible healthcare.
