At the same time, motorists have been urged to keep within the speed limits and avoid driving on the construction site to minimize the dust.

“The Authority is determined to fast track the ongoing works as we assure all road users that we will continually provide adequate diversion for smooth flow of traffic,” said Muchilwa.

Nairobi is notorious for its traffic jams, but on Thursday last week the city experienced the worst snarl up with frustrated drivers venting their anger online, after spending better part of the night on the highway.

The gridlock happened on a stretch of road where a massive new expressway is being built, but the traffic jam was reportedly made worse by a road accident, with netizens calling on the contractors to provide alternative routes while the work was being carried out.
