Jumia food index report

A new report has revealed that Kenyans prefer chicken as the most popular cuisine for delivery followed by pizza in second place and third place.

The report shows that residents of Nakuru prefer Chinese food with Nairobi customers opting for chicken, pizza and burgers while Mombasa customers are more inclined to continental cuisines.

According to the Jumia food index report 2019, which covered trends over the last three years in terms of popularity, burgers moved from the fifth most popular cuisine in 2017, to third in 2019.

The report also shows that Indian food lost popularity but is still fifth in the ranking, highlighting  Indian, Ethiopian and Thai cuisines as ones with growth potential.

Jumia food Kenya on-demand services, Managing Director East Africa notes that the popularity of breakfast has grown to 4.6% in 2019 compared to 3.8% in 2017.

Lunch is at 41.1% in 2019 up from 36.2% in 2017 although dinner deliveries dropped from 60% in 2017 to 54.2% in 2019 according to the data collected.

For 2020, the Jumia food index report, predicts a 50% increase in on-demand deliveries on the back of a continuation of more affordable menu items, enhanced availability of popular vendors, increased mobile penetration and a growing awareness of the convenience.

According to the World Bank economic update report, Kenya’s growth in food and accommodation services at 10.6% is outpacing the real GDP growth which is at 5.6 % and the growth in the services sector at 6.6%.
