Japan Grand Prix Cancelled

The organizer of the Japan Grand Prix has had to cancel the event that was slated to take place on October 10, 2021 citing Coronavirus concerns.

The cancellation comes against the backdrop of the just concluded Tokyo Olympics that bordered on cancellation due to the rise’s cases of the virus in Japan.

In April this year, Japan’s central government declared the third state of emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic with new restrictions imposed in Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, and Hyogo prefectures.

The state of Emergency was announced three months before the much-anticipated summer Olympics that had been slated to take place from July to August.

The decision to Cancel the Japanese Grand Prix means the F1 calendar faces another reshuffle after races in Australia, China, Canada, and Singapore were also called off citing the same reasons.

Organizers of the Formula expressed optimism that the current spate of cancellations was just hurdles that they faced towards delivering races for Formula 1 fans.

At the same time, they also revealed that the cancelations have seen more countries expressing interest to host the races.

The F1 now shifts gears to the Belgian Grand Prix that is slated for August 29, 2021 at the Spa- Francorchamps.
