Iran rebuts accusations of terror involvement

The Iranian embassy in Nairobi has come out to assure Kenyans that the ongoing feud between Iran and the United States will not raise insecurity in Kenya in any way.

The Head of Politics in the Iranian embassy, Tohid Afzali told Metropol Tv that the Iranian government is trying its best to maintain calm in order to keep its economic ties with countries such as Kenya stable.

Kenya, which is a key exporter of tea to Iran, has been experiencing falling tea sales to Iran following the imposition of economic sanctions on the middle eastern state.

Kenyan tea exports to Iran dropped to 532,715 tonnes in 2019 down from 590,111 kilograms in 2018.

Tensions have been rising since Friday when the United States killed Iranian Major General Qasem Soleimani in a drone attack.

Iran has vowed to retaliate the killing, with more than a dozen rockets having been fired at two Iraqi military bases hosting US troops early Wednesday.
