An early morning fire razed to the ground a dormitory at Al Maktoum Girls High School in Kajiado town on Wednesday.
The fire which broke out at around 5 am when the girls had gone for early morning preps, destroyed beddings and their personal belongings leaving 56 students without a place to sleep.
Kajiado Central Sub-County Police Commander David Loronyokwe confirmed the incident saying an electric fault is suspected to have caused the inferno.
“Nothing was salvaged during the incident as the fire was too fierce and efforts by locals to put it out proved futile. We suspect the fire was caused by an electric fault,” said Loronyokwe.
The area residents ran to the girls rescue to help put out the fire which had already burnt the dormitory.
No casualties have been reported following the morning incident.
