Dr. Oduor Otieno takes over from Charles Muchene, who stepped down after completing the maximum tenure of nine years allowed for independent directors under the Corporate Governance Code of the Capital Markets Authority.
Prior to his appointment, he was the chairman of Kenya Breweries and UDV – which are both subsidiaries of EABL, and as the chairman of the board audit and Risk committee.
He has previously served as a Permanent Secretary to the Treasury, the Group CEO of KCB, and more recently, as a partner with Deloitte East Africa.
Mr Oduor will be expected to lead EABL in the next phase of growth, with among the big projects being the Sh14 billion brewery in Kisumu.
His predecessor, Mr Muchene, has led the firm in strategic decisions that have delivered growth, this is according to EABL chief executive Andrew Cowan who also added that Mr Muchene was leaving EABL on a sound footing, having overseen a host of developments across East Africa and his great insights and sound judgment of recent years will leave a lasting impact on EABL.
