Airtel Africa, Vodacom Seal Infrastructure Sharing Deal for Enhanced Connectivity 

Airtel Africa and Vodacom Group have entered into infrastructure sharing agreement covering key markets among them Mozambique.

Other markets include Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with the deal subject to regulatory approvals.

The two will be advancing digital inclusion by expanding access to high-speed, reliable connectivity across the continent.

Initially, the partnership will focus on sharing fibre networks and tower infrastructure to accelerate the rollout of digital services, cut infrastructure costs, and improve speed to market.

By leveraging existing assets, the collaboration aims to deliver faster internet, more reliable services, and broader coverage, particularly in underserved areas—helping to bridge Africa’s digital divide.

Vodacom Group CEO Shameel Joosub said the partnership is central to its strategy of connecting 260 million customers by 2030.

“Through infrastructure sharing, we can provide cost-effective services to more people, more rapidly, ensuring that no one is left behind in the digital age,” he said, adding that the agreement supports a sustainable, inclusive, and connected future for the continent.

Airtel Africa CEO Sunil Taldar said the move aligns with the company’s mission to make its network accessible even in the most remote areas.

“Working with Vodacom, we will open greater access to digital and financial opportunities that will transform lives,” he noted, highlighting that collaboration between competitors is now a business imperative to build resilient, high-capacity networks capable of supporting emerging technologies and growing data demand.

The partnership is also expected to accelerate the deployment of fibre, enabling faster adoption of 4G and 5G services and enhancing mobile, fixed, and financial offerings across both operators’ African footprints.
