Members of Parliament have set aside ksh.4.9 billion to implement constituency projects in the run-up to the August 9, 202 general elections before their tenure expires
The Budget and Appropriations Committee (BAC) allocated the money for the National Constituencies Development fund (NG-CDF) for the implementation of constituency projects.
“Increase Ksh.4.9 billion to the NG-CDF,” said BAC in its report.
MPs have been accusing Treasury of sabotaging development projects in constituencies projects with reports indicating that the national government has been disbursing Ksh.2 billion to CDF every week.
“The total allocation to CDF in this financial year is Sh41.714 billion but none has been released two months in the financial year. The projects and bursaries meant for the student have been sabotaged,” said Wafula Wamunyinyi in August last year.
Treasury Principal Secretary Julius Muia had last month told the Finance and National Planning Committee that the CDF arrears of Ksh.4.9 billion for the financial years 2011/12, 2013/14 and 2014/15 will be included in the 2021/22 Supplementary Estimates No. 1
“The balance as at February 17, 2022, was Ksh.18 billion which will be cleared by mid-April,” Dr Muia told the Gladys Wanga-led committee.
He added that the disbursements of the Ksh.4.98 billion will be done after completing the payment of the NG-CDF allocation for the current financial year in Mid-April.
The total allocation to CDF in this financial year is Ksh.41.7 billion, with each of the 290 constituencies being allocated Ksh.137 million for development in the year to June 2022.
