Laikipia Health Service (LHS) has set up two oxygen plants at an estimated cost of Ksh.90 million to boost the management of COVID-19 cases in the county.
One of the two plants with a capacity of 180 litres will be located in Nyahururu and 360 litres capacity plant will be located in Nanyuki.
While addressing the media, in Nanyuki, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) in charge of medical services and public health Rose Maitai said COVID-19 virus cases are escalating and hence the need to adhere to protection measures.
Even as the county health boss called on members of the public to remain steadfast in observing measures against the virus, she said “medical oxygen supplementation is costly and we have to remind ourselves that COVID-19 virus is still within our society. At no point should we lower the guard,” adding that “we are receiving a lot of requests to waive of Covid-19 hospital charges.

Further Maitai said the County is working to install a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) COVID-19 testing machine in the next two months at a cost of Ksh.15 million both at Nyahururu and Nanyuki LHS outlets as one of their capacity enhanced plans.
The testing machines are expected to cut the time needed to process COVID-19 tests by sending them outside the county.
So far Laikipia County has inoculated at least 28, 800 people with the first dose of COVID-19 and at least 13, 000 with a double jab.
So far, the County has 300 isolation beds, nine Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds, 31 oxygen cylinders, 56 oxygen concentrators, 180 litres oxygen plant and 14 vaccination centres.
As at Thursday, Laikipia County had 3,355 cumulative cases of COVID out of which 1,786 are males and 1,569 females.
