8-month-old baby whose father returned from Kisumu among 5 new coronavirus cases in Uganda

Uganda confirmed five more cases of coronavirus on Wednesday, bringing the total to 13.

According to Director General of Health Services Dr. Henry Mwebesi, among the infected was an 8-month-old baby whose father had recently travelled back to the country from Kisumu

According to Mwebei who spoke to Uganda’s media outlets, the baby was rushed to Iganga Hospital after exhibiting high fever, severe flu and difficulty in breathing.

The DG SAID Medics were dispatched to the hospital to take samples from the baby’s family member.

The baby is among three Ugandans in the 5 new cases; the other two are a 63-year old who travelled from Germany and a 57-year-old salt trader in Adjumani.

The remaining positive cases are Chinese nationals who tried to leave the country for Democratic Republic of Congo via Zombo district but were nabbed and taken into quarantine where they tested positive.

Meanwhile, Uganda confirmed eight new cases of the coronavirus on Monday. Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng urged Ugandans to stay calm and maintain hygiene after confirming the new cases.

“All the eight cases are Ugandan nationals who travelled back from Dubai, UAE; two on March 20 and six on March 22, 2020 aboard the Emirates and Ethiopian Airlines flights. This brings the total number of Covid-19 confirmed cases in the country to nine,” Dr Aceng said.
