At least a hundred women and youth groups in Baringo Central Sub County have benefitted from 100 heifers donated by area MP Joshua Kandie in partnership with his German friends.
While handing over the heifers to beneficiaries at Kabarnet National Museum grounds, the legislator said the initiative sponsored by his friends led by Klaus Schwenk was to empower the livelihoods of needy and vulnerable groups from poor backgrounds.
He thanked the foreign nationals for donating fifty of the heifers the beneficiaries to take care of the animals to enable them to reap when they mature in terms of milk production and other products.
“We should embrace the gift from our German friends and make sure that we tend the animals by regularly dipping and deworming against ticks and worms for the benefit of our families,” he said.
Mr. Schwenk said they decided to gift the women after recognizing and appreciating the struggles they make to raise their families.
The German donor went out of his way to baptize and brand the heifers by giving them name tags as a way of blessing before handing over to the beneficiaries.
On Covid-19, Mr. Kandie advised his constituents especially those aged 60 years and above to get corona jabs at the nearest health facilities to protect themselves given that the number of infections is on the rise.
Kandie asked the locals to shun unnecessary social media propaganda surrounding the pandemic, which he termed as myths and should be avoided at all cost.
“Kindly I request everyone to get COVID-19 vaccine, I personally have been vaccinated, so should you, kindly visit our health centres and get the jab as it will reduce the number of infections in our county,” Kandie implored.
He stressed the need for people to strictly follow Ministry of health protocols like wearing face masks, washing hands regularly and social distancing especially when they are in crowded place.
