The US military has deployed additional forces to Manda island to boost security at a military airfield that was attacked by Al-Shabaab terrorists.
Al-Shabaab terrorists attacked the Kenya Defense Force military base in Manda early on Sunday morning, killing 3 Americans – who included one serviceman and two contractors.
A source who spoke to Reuters says 50 additional troops were deployed to the base from the East Africa Response Force (EARF).
U.S. Army Major General William Gayler, Director of Operations at The U.S Africa Command has said the EARF provides a critical combat-ready, rapid deployment force that responds to a broad range of military operations including the protection of u.s. citizens and diplomatic facilities, support for non-combatant evacuation operations, humanitarian assistance, disaster relief operations, and other missions as directed.
U.S. Africa Command has, however, said the attack is not linked to Iran.
