Kenya’s logistics company Sendy has been featured on the list of top 100 global technology firms globally that have a significant impact on business and society in this year’s World Economic Forum (WEF) Technology Pioneers.
Sendy has been featured for laying a base to fulfill infrastructure for e-commerce and consumer brands.
In December last year, Sendy launched a digital application to help small e-commerce businesses get their orders to the consumers conveniently and at more affordable rates.
Another company which made it to the list is Access Afya which has been recognized for offering high-quality healthcare for the global market.
“The 2022 cohort of Technology Pioneers is already bringing great changes to industries around the world,” said Saemoon Yoon, Technology Pioneers Community Lead, World Economic Forum.
Yoon said that by joining this community these emerging tech leaders can continue to show not only the impressive tech advancements within their firms but also how their companies are helping to build a better future for us all.
Pula Advisors also made it to top 100. It has been featured for its innovation and impact in using technology to provide agriculture insurance to millions of smallholder farmers in emerging markets.
Pula, a Kenyan insurtech startup, specialises in digital and agricultural insurance to derisk millions of smallholder farmers across Africa.
“Farmers in emerging markets are the most hardworking citizens of the world yet the most likely to already feel the impact of climate change. They need products like agriculture insurance and digital agronomy advice to adapt to an increasingly unpredictable climate,” said Pula chief executive Thomas Njeru during the nomination ceremony.
Early last year, Pula secured a Series A investment of Ksh.696.5 million to derisk smallholder farmers in Africa.
Founded by Rose Goslinga and Njeru in 2015, Pula delivers agricultural insurance and digital products to help smallholder farmers navigate climate risks, improve their farming practices and bolster their incomes over time.
Other companies that have been awarded before for this endeavor are Google, Twitter, Airbnb, Mozilla, Spotify, Scribd, Kaggle, Kickstarter, and Palantir Technologies.
Others are bluebird bio, Bloom Energy, Cyberdyne, Editas Medicine, Foundation Medicine, Proteus Digital Health and Wikimedia.
Technology Pioneer was launched in 2000 and features early to growth-stage companies from around the world that are involved in the design, development and deployment of new technologies and innovations.
