Schools in Kenya to Re-open on May 13th

Schools are set to be re-opened in Kenya on May 13, 2024, following the announcement by President William Ruto.

The re-opening had been pushed back by a week due to heavy rains that have pounded the East African nation since early April.

The official opening date for all learning institutions had been set for May 2, 2024.

President Ruto in his address Wednesday said the re-opening follows the subsidised rains across the country.

The heavy rains have been experienced across Kenya, much of which has claimed hundreds of lives.

A Public Holiday

President Ruto also declared Friday a public Holiday.

The May 10, 2024 holiday, Ruto said, will be in honour of hundreds of Kenyans who have perished due to floods.

Flash floods in Kenya have claimed at least 228 lives and displaced 200,000 people since April 2024.
